It is around this time of the year that people stop going to the gym, or stop trying to accomplish the resolutions they made for the New Year. There is approximately an 80% drop off rate by the second week of February at gyms. So if you feel like giving up, or like it’s just not going to happen this year, think again! Now is a good time to reevaluate your situation and modify your goals. Take a break, try something new, and get motivated again!
More gyms are doing their best to serve the individual. Besides just regular gyms there are sports gyms (if you like racquetball, tennis, or boxing) and hybrid gyms that offer barre, yoga, and pilates. If you are not getting the kind of vibe you want at your current gym, maybe it’s time to try somewhere new.
If you’re lucky enough to live in southern California (like me!) then maybe you should take your exercise outside. It’s sunny every day here. Go for a beach run or hike your local state parks. If you still need the camaraderie of a gym, but don’t have the money, look for local meet-up groups to join. Usually they are free and you can meet like-minded individuals who share your interests.
Remember that exercise is a vital part of life that keeps you healthy (body & mind). Along with a good diet and healthy lifestyle, exercise will lead to the results you want to accomplish. Just keep at it, and be the change you want to see!
