Mushroom For Health & Wellness

Mushrooms have been used for thousands of years within the Traditional Chinese Medicine material medica. These herbs are still being used for their healing properties because they contain some of the most potent natural medicines. Hundreds of varieties of mushrooms are being studied currently to better understand what benefits they may have.

  • Anti-bacterial and anti-virus properties

Latest research into mushrooms:

Researchers are studying mushrooms for their possible abilities to treat cancer and hepatitis B, increase endurance in athletes, aid in nerve regeneration, and for their anti-inflammatory capabilities.


Many types are toxic and deadly, and several species of mushrooms look almost identical. Foraging for wild mushrooms is never recommended. Mushrooms are a fungus that absorbs whatever concentrates they grown in. Try to eat organically grown mushrooms when possible.

Mushroom Spotlight:

Cordyceps (dong chong xia cao)- Helps with mitochondria ATP production (energy). In Traditional Chinese Medicine this herb is said to increase energy, strengthen the Lung and Liver yin, and transform phlegm. It is said to help with chronic cough, excess phlegm, asthma, and impotence.

Shiitake (xiang gu)- Helps with inflammation, fights viruses and bacteria, and is being studied for its ability to attack tumors. It also contains B-vitamins and many minerals that fight oxidative stress. In Traditional Chinese Medicine it is said to help strengthen the stomach and intestines, increase energy, and strengthen immunity.

Reishi (ling zhi cao)- Said to help with immunity, especially flu. It is considered the mushroom of immortality in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It may be able to help with lung conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and excess phlegm. It is also said to help with insomnia. It is being studied for its ability to fight cancer (esp. prostate cancers).
