There are many reasons that couples may struggle to become pregnant and turn to other methods to have a baby. In Vitro Fertilization or IVF is becoming a more popular option that couples turn to when they are experiencing difficulties. Success rates of IVF globally are well below 50%, and the procedure does carry some inherent risks. The research is showing that to improve your outcomes of having a healthy live birth, you need to work along with an acupuncturist through the IVF process.
A review and meta-analysis published in July of 2023 looked at acupuncture and its effects on conception and live birth during IVF treatment in women. This research looked at 25 trials of almost 5,000 women. What they found was that both the pregnancy rate, and live birth rate, were significantly higher in those who utilized acupuncture care along with IVF. The rates were 43.6% vs 33.2% and 38% vs 28.7% respectively.
More and more research is showing the benefits of acupuncture in the treatment of fertility issues. Today, we see many IVF and fertility specialists referring to acupuncturists because of their benefits and increased success rates.
